Touch Screen OLED MacBook Pro Expected in Late 2026

Apple is preparing to introduce its first MacBook Pro with both OLED display and touchscreen functionality as early as next year, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors).

Unlike previous MacBook Pros, which have lacked touchscreen panels, this upcoming model will reportedly use on-cell touch technology. That means the touch sensors will be integrated directly into the display’s top layer instead of being added as a separate module.

Kuo suggests that Apple’s decision reflects user-behavior patterns observed in iPad usage. His view is that for specific tasks, touch input can improve productivity and improve overall user experience.

The OLED MacBook Pro is expected to be part of a redesign that includes several enhancements. Rumors suggest it will be thinner than current models, potentially with a smaller or redesigned notch or webcam design, and improvements in screen contrast, black levels, and power efficiency.

Alongside this OLED MacBook Pro model, there are also reports of an upcoming lower-cost MacBook powered by an iPhone-series chip entering production in the fourth quarter of 2025. That model is not expected to include touch screen support initially, though a second-generation version released in 2027 might gain that feature.

If these predictions are accurate the touch-enabled OLED MacBook Pro could redefine Apple’s MacBook design philosophy. For years Apple avoided adding touchscreen functionality to its MacBooks, citing concerns over ergonomics and duplicating iPad features.

It remains unclear exactly when the OLED MacBook Pro will become available to consumers. Some reports place its launch between the end of 2026 and early 2027. Other rumors, however, point specifically to a release in the fourth quarter of 2026.
