Best NOMAD iPhone 17 Series Cases You Can Buy Right Now
Accessory maker NOMAD recently announced its latest lineup of cases and accessories for the iPhone 17 series, including new leather designs, rugged options, and updated screen protection. NOMAD sent us a bunch to go hands-on with, so here’s a quick breakdown of what’s new for the iPhone 17 series, and how they look when paired with a Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max (I’ll have more on my upgrade later, stay tuned).
Rugged Case
The new Rugged Case, also for iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, is priced at $69 CAD and comes in black or ultra orange, meant to offer strong protection. I think this pairs best with the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro Max. I do find this case a tiny bit thicker compared to a clear case from Spigen, for example.

Modern Case
As for another non-leather option, the slimmer Modern Case is priced at $69 CAD and comes in black, volt, or lunar gray for iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The volt really pops and I’ve been using the Modern Case for my older iPhone 14 Pro Max and it’s been super solid.

Magnetic Leather Back
The Magnetic Leather Back, a slim snap-on option for iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Air, is priced at $69 CAD. It comes in black or brown Horween leather. Here it is in Rustic Brown:

The Magnetic Leather Back does add a bit of thickness to the back of your iPhone, but it’s easily removed. There’s some sticky tape that keeps it adhered well on top of the magnets.

Modern Leather and Traditional Leather Case
The Modern Leather Case ranges from $69 to $99 CAD, depending on the model. Options include Horween leather in brown, black, Olde Dublin (limited edition), or burgundy (limited edition) for the Pro models, along with Ecco leather in brown, black, or English Tan for iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max.
The Traditional Leather Case costs $89 to $119 CAD and comes in Horween brown or black for iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Air. Ecco leather versions in brown, black, and English Tan are also available for the Pro models.
Below we have English Tan in both versions. I think it’s a super nice colour.

The difference between each case? Modern has a TPU bumper, while the Traditional has leather completely around the case including the sides:

Modern Leather Folio
The Modern Leather Folio, priced between $139 and $159 CAD, comes in the same Horween and Ecco leather finishes as the Modern Leather Case. A change this year: the interior and exterior are now full leather, replacing the previous microfiber lining.
The Modern Leather Folio is surrounded by a TPU bumper and is definitely top tier and nothing beats the smell of leather. The Horween Leather in Olde Dublin is limited edition and it’s super nice (and expensive):

You really see the tonal shifts on the seams and creases. There is also an optional removable magnetic clasp you can add on to keep everything sealed shut:

Modern Leather Case
The Modern Leather Case ranges from $69 to $119 CAD, depending on the model. Options include Horween leather in brown, black, Olde Dublin (limited edition), or burgundy (limited edition) for the Pro models, along with Ecco leather in brown, black, or English Tan for iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max.
Here we have Horween leather in Burgundy Chromexcel (left) and Olde Dublin (right). You really do get some unique looks with leather cases, making your phone feel a bit elevated versus a plastic case.

Let’s be honest, NOMAD cases are a bit of a luxury item, especially their leather offerings. They have some loyalists and I can see why with the craftsmanship and the leather used in these cases. Free shipping now requires $210 CAD minimum and it comes via FedEx. This is not cheap, but if you can afford it you’re getting some quality cases, but for a price.
