iPhone 17 Durability Test: What Scratches, What Wipes Away

YouTube durability tester JerryRigEverything has put the regular iPhone 17 through his usual torture test to see how tough Apple’s latest phone really is. We’ve already seen him try to bend the iPhone Air, which was a test that shocked and surprised him.
On the front, Apple’s new Ceramic Shield 2 glass once again held up well, showing only smudges at Mohs hardness level six and seven, with no visible scratches. Jerry called it “something really special,” adding that while glass will still break on impact, scratch resistance has noticeably improved.
The test then moved to the back glass, where JerryRigEverything (also known as Zack Nelson in real life) tried different metals. Common items like coins and house keys left marks, but these wiped away easily. Precious metals, including silver and gold coins, also rubbed off without lasting damage. The only permanent marks came from stainless steel, bare aluminum, and titanium, which etched into the glass.
Other features noted include the slim earpiece speaker grille, aluminum frame with antenna lines, and the new camera control button, which JerryRigEverything suspects could be a weak point in bend tests. Despite this, the iPhone 17 passed the bend test without breaking, showing only minor flex.
The rear cameras, covered with sapphire glass, and the phone’s IP68 waterproofing held up as expected. The channel concluded the iPhone 17 is “a ridiculously solid phone,” and joked that if Apple keeps this up, he might be out of a job.
