Sony Celebrates 30 Years of PlayStation with Photography Book and Reebok Sneakers

It’s been 30 years since PlayStation launched in North America and Europe this month. Sony is celebrating the momentous occasion by launching a large-format photography book alongside a three-sneaker collection with Reebok.

The photography book is aptly titled PlayStation: The First 30 Years. It’s a 400-page book that offers never-before-seen prototypes, concept sketches, and models that influenced the design of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s hardware. Throughout the book, you’ll find early designs of the DualShock controller and the original PlayStation.

Fans will also get a better glimpse at those who influenced the hardware over the ages. With images of engineers and designers like Ken Kutaragi, Teiyu Goto, and Yujin Morisawa, the book spotlights those who helped craft everything from the original PlayStation to PlayStation 5.

PlayStation: The First 30 Years and its art have been curated by Michael C Place and designed by Nicole Motby, both of whom hail from Studio.Build. Preorders for the book are available now, starting at $125 USD (around $174 CAD). A $325 USD (roughly $425 CAD) Deluxe Edition is also available and comes with exposed binding, foil-stamped presentation design and a five colour neon inkbox lining. The two versions launch worldwide in spring 2026.

In addition, PlayStation is partnering with Reebok to launch three new sneakers, paying homage to the legacy of PlayStation. The PlayStation x Reebok collection features custom designs connected to one of PlayStation’s original launch regions. There is a pair of Pump Omni Zone II to reflect the launch in North America. A PlayStation-inspired version of the InstaPump Fury 94 is being made to reflect Japan while the Workout Plus is for the United Kingdom.

These sneakers draw inspiration from the original PlayStation, featuring the unique colourway as well as style. All three pairs come with unique packaging that mirror’s the console’s original design. The PlayStation x Reebok collection launches in October.
