Instagram is rolling out a new awards initiative called ‘Rings’ aimed at honoring creators who push boundaries and stay true to their own vision.

Rings is an award created by Instagram to celebrate creators who aren’t afraid to take creative chances and do things in their own unique way. Rather than measuring influence purely by numbers, this program highlights originality, boldness, and the courage to experiment.

Winners will be recognized not only in the digital space but also with a tangible, wearable ring. The idea is to merge symbolic recognition with visual status on the platform.

On the platform, winners’ profiles will display a gold ring around their profile photo whenever they post a Story, replacing the normal story ring to highlight their status. In addition, those selected will receive access to special profile customization features, such as custom background colors and the ability to reimagine how likes appear.

The physical ring is designed by fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner. It is intended as a symbolic object that represents creative bravery and distinction.

Rather than relying purely on engagement or follower counts, Instagram is using a jury-based selection process. A panel of creative voices from various fields, fashion, entertainment, tech, music, is responsible for nominating and voting on which creators will receive the Rings distinction.

Some notable jury members include Adam Mosseri (Instagram head), Spike Lee, Marc Jacobs, Grace Wales Bonner, and tech creator Marques Brownlee. These judges nominate a longlist and then select a final cohort who will be awarded.

While Instagram has not disclosed strict eligibility rules, insights from commentary suggest that creators who focus on developing a signature style, showing process and experimentation, and pushing the boundaries of format may stand out.

Also, engagement metrics like saves, shares, remixes, and thoughtful comments might carry more weight than just views or likes. Instagram has not yet announced the first class of winners or the timeline for selection.
