Disney+ Raising Prices in Canada as Hulu Branding Arrives [Update]

Disney+ subscribers in Canada will soon pay more for ad-free streaming plans as the service rolls out new Hulu branding as of today.

Starting in November, Disney+ will increase its monthly prices by up to $3. The standard ad-free plan will rise from $12.99 to $15.99, while the premium 4K plan will climb from $15.99 to $16.99 per month. The ad-supported plan will remain at $8.99, as confirmed by Disney. Gee, streaming isn’t getting any cheaper folks.

The price change comes as Disney+ replaces its Star section in Canada with Hulu, aligning its platform with the U.S. version. The rebrand took effect today, October 8, with popular series like Only Murders in the Building, The Kardashians, and Futurama now appearing under the Hulu label.

Disney says the update is part of a long-term plan to create a unified app experience by 2026. Subscribers will notice new design updates, including a revamped navigation bar and personalized “For You” recommendations powered by improved algorithms.

Hulu, originally launched in the U.S. in 2008, became known for next-day TV streaming and original hits like The Handmaid’s Tale. While it never officially came to Canada before, Disney’s acquisition of full ownership paved the way for its branding to expand globally.

Disney+ also plans to introduce new visual features, including refreshed artwork, improved navigation, and interface tags such as “New Series” and “Season Finale.” These updates will continue to roll out ahead of next year’s combined Disney+ and Hulu app launch.
