PlayStation is releasing a new Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense controller for PlayStation 5. In Canada, the new controller is being made available exclusively through Walmart, starting on October 20th.
In a PlayStation Blog post, the company announces that the new Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense is being made to celebrate the company’s legacy. The shades of blue are inspired by the PlayStation logo, which uses a deep blue colour. Additionally, the blue harkens to the colour used on the glow of the DualSense when it’s turned on.
The Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense also has a unique pattern comprising the PlayStation face buttons across the touchpad. Finally, on the back of the controller, Katakana characters have been printed, spelling “Pureisutēshon”, which is the brand’s name in Japanese.
“This design captures the feeling of anticipation and wonder every time you pick up the controller,” Leo Cardoso, a member of PlayStation’s Color, Material and Finish design team, says.
The new Icon Blue Special Edition DualSense is launching in limited regions. In Canada, the only participating retailer to sell the controller is Walmart. The controller is being made available for $109.99. The controller is also launching in the US on the same day. A week later, on October 28th, the controller will be released in Mexico and Chile.
PlayStation has been consistently releasing new controllers for the PlayStation 5. Most recently, preorders for the God of War 20th anniversary DualSense went live, with a release of October 23rd. Unlike the Icon Blue Special Edition controller, the God of War-inspired controller is available through all major retailers.
