Bell to Kill Off Virgin Internet and TV in Ontario, Axe TV Boxes

As part of its Investor Day announcements, Bell confirmed it will stop selling Virgin Plus Internet and TV services in Ontario starting January 2026, marking a major shift in its home services strategy.

Virgin Plus first launched its internet and TV services in July 2020. These services, which are a bundled offering (with TV requiring an eligible unlimited internet plan of at least 15 Mbps), were introduced as an app-based, set-top-box-free option powered by Bell’s infrastructure. Besides Ontario, Virgin Plus sells its TV and internet services in Quebec, which looks to remain for now.

So what does this mean? Usually Virgin Plus internet would be a better deal when compared to Bell internet, despite the requirement of a mobile bundle. But prices have crept up over the years and the price advantage hasn’t really remained.

The company said it plans to streamline its brands and focus its Internet and mobility bundles under the Bell name. Virgin Plus will continue as Bell’s flanker wireless brand, while EBOX will remain its budget Internet option. Lucky Mobile will remain its prepaid wireless brand. As for its legacy 3G network shutdown, that’s being extended to 2027.

Bell also plans to phase out traditional TV set-top boxes, moving customers toward app-based streaming on devices they already own. The company says this change will simplify how subscribers access content and eliminate the need for physical hardware.

As for what else is coming? Bell teased its ‘Unbreakable Internet’ service, launching in spring 2026, which will keep home connections running even during power outages by using wireless backups from Bell’s 5G network alongside its fibre infrastructure.

In 2026, Bell will also launch direct-to-cell satellite services, and you can click here to find out pricing.
