Bell’s Latest Wireless Changes: SD Video Returns and US Roaming is Capped
Last month, as part of Bell’s ongoing price changes to its wireless plans, it added HD video streaming to its entry $60 and $65 Lite and Select plans.
To start off May, Bell also added data caps to its roaming plans. Fast forward to today, and now we’re seeing some changes go backwards.
- $60/60GB
- $65/100GB Canada-US; 5GB/day roaming in the US
- $80 unlimited data in Canada; 5GB/day roaming in US/Mexico
- $95 unlimited data in Canada; Global (65 countries); 5GB/day global roaming
So what changed? The $60 and $65 plans have now reverted back to SD video streaming, according to changes on the Bell website spotted by iPhone in Canada on Tuesday. Also new? The $65 Canada-US plan now limits your US roaming to 5GB of data per day (beyond 5GB you get throttled 512 Kbps data).
As it stands, all roaming plans with Bell now have a 5GB per day cap, regardless of where you are travelling. That may definitely limit usage for those that tether or share their connection with family and friends.
Telus and Rogers do not have roaming caps (yet?), but Rogers does limit roaming in its $65 US-Mexico plan to the first 12 months.
Right now, all Bell wireless plans include 3 months of free TSN, which comes just ahead of the FIFA World Cup, which of course the company has exclusive broadcasting and streaming rights to in Canada. The move will likely increase streaming numbers for coverage.
