Apple Preps OLED Touchscreen MacBook Pro for the First Time: Report
Apple is reportedly working on its first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro, with a release window targeting late 2026 or early 2027, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The new laptops, code-named K114 and K116, are said to feature a thinner, lighter frame, run on M6 chips, and include OLED displays—the first time Apple has brought that screen technology to the Mac.
Sources familiar with Apple’s plans say the company has also developed reinforced hinges and screen components to stop the display from “bouncing” when tapped, a problem common in existing Windows laptops. The updated MacBook Pro will reportedly ditch the notch in favour of a hole-punch camera, similar to the Dynamic Island design found on recent iPhones.
Because of pricier components, the new 14-inch and 16-inch models are expected to cost a few hundred dollars more than current versions. Gurman’s sources add that Apple plans a limited rollout at first, monitoring demand before expanding touch capabilities across its Mac lineup.
We’ve been hearing about a touchscreen MacBook Pro for a while now, since 2023 as per Gurman’s previous reports. Last month, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed an OLED MacBook Pro with touchscreen is coming in late 2026, which looks to align with what Gurman is hearing.
Way back in 2020, Apple executives Craig Federighi, Greg Joswiak, and John Ternus detailed how crazy a touchscreen Mac would be.
“I gotta tell you when we released Big Sur, and these articles started coming out saying, ‘Oh my God, look, Apple is preparing for touch’. I was thinking like, ‘Whoa, why?’”, said Apple’s Federighi. Apple “designed and evolved the look for macOS in a way that felt most comfortable and natural to us, not remotely considering something about touch,” said Federighi. Well, looks like times have changed and magically Apple is reconsidering what many have asked for.

A touchscreen without a 360° hinge is useless IMO.
For me, I'm not going to be reaching my arm up to touch a screen but I would if I'm resting the screen on my lap for certain things like watching a video in a contorted sitting position on the couch etc. It also could be useful if it works with a pen but other than that, having had touchscreen laptops, I find them overrated.
