What Is Grokipedia? Elon Musk’s xAI Unveils AI-Powered Wikipedia Rival

Elon Musk’s xAI has launched Grokipedia, a new AI-driven encyclopedia designed to take on Wikipedia that’s fully open source.
“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we shall nonetheless strive towards that goal,” said Musk.
The free online platform went live late Monday, claiming to deliver “maximum truth-seeking” content generated by artificial intelligence rather than human editors.

Built using xAI’s Grok chatbot technology, Grokipedia features nearly 900,000 articles (885,279 as of writing according to its homepage) spanning topics from science to pop culture. Entries are automatically generated and updated in real time—no volunteer edits or moderation debates.
He added on Tuesday, “The goal here is to create an open source, comprehensive collection of all knowledge. Then place copies of that etched in a stable oxide in orbit, the Moon and Mars to preserve it for the future. Foundation.”
As for Wikipedia, here’s how it describes Grokipedia: “Grokipedia is a free online encyclopedia created by xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk. It is reportedly powered by the Grok AI model, which automatically generates and updates articles using large datasets. The platform was launched after Musk claimed that Wikipedia exhibits a left-wing bias, arguing that Grokipedia provides a more “truth-seeking” alternative by removing human editorial influence and relying on AI to produce content.”
Below is a screenshot from a Grokipedia entry for the Toronto Blue Jays (if hover over the title of an article, you can copy the URL to share it):

Any line of text can be highlighted and you can click options such as “copy”, “Ask Grok” and “It’s Wrong”. If you click on “See Edits” you can see edits made to the article.
Musk says that the version 0.1 launch is now live, but version 1.0 will be “10x better, but even at 0.1 it’s better than Wikipedia imo.”
