Apple Launches Campaign to Design Digital Trees for London’s Battersea Power Station

Apple is launching a new campaign, encouraging anyone in the UK to design a digital Christmas tree that can be displayed on London’s Battersea Power Station. Submissions must be made on an iPad, with the winning art pieces to be displayed on the exterior.

The company revealed its ‘Your Tree on Battersea’ campaign today. As Apple explains, those in the UK can “express their creativity on ‌iPad‌” and create as a submission of original Christmas tree designs. The campaign is being hosted by British comedian and presenter Munya Chawawa. Winning public entries are said to be projected alongside commissioned designs contributed from established artists, including Sir Stephen Fry and David Shrigley OBE.

The competition is now open to the public. To enter, those interested must download the template to their iPads. Afterwards, you must create your Christmas tree design. Apple encourages participants to “make it wonderful or make it weird.” Finally, you must submit it before the deadline. The competition closes on November 23rd at midnight.

During the time of the competition, 39 Apple Store locations in the UK will host special 30-minute Today at Apple sessions dedicated to helping the public create and submit their Christmas tree designs. These sessions will continue through December 22 so “the public can get creative on ‌iPad‌ and Apple Pencil+ throughout the festive season.”

24 winning submissions will be chosen on December 4th at 5 PM. Apple will then publicly unveil the winning submissions on the Battersea Power Station chimneys and wash towers.

In 2023, the now annual tradition began with artist David Hockney’s Bigger Christmas Trees, which was created on the iPad Pro. Last year, Aardman, the creators of Wallace & Gromit, used the iPhone 16 Pro Max to make a short animation of Wallace and Gromit building Christmas trees.
