Google Chrome Autofill Now Supports Passport, Driver’s Licence, and Vehicle Info

Google is making Chrome’s autofill feature even smarter and more convenient. The browser can now securely fill in additional information, such as your passport and driver’s licence number, as well as vehicle details like a licence plate or VIN. The new capabilities are available globally starting today for desktop users who have enhanced autofill (Settings > Autofill > Enhanced Autofill) enabled.

Chrome already helps millions of users save time every day by automatically filling in saved addresses, passwords, and payment details. This latest update expands those capabilities to a wider range of personal information, allowing Chrome to handle even more complex online forms. Google says the system now better understands diverse form layouts and formatting requirements, which should make autofill faster and more accurate across the web.

According to Google, enhanced autofill was designed with privacy and security in mind. “We’ve designed enhanced autofill to be private and secure,” the company said. “When you enter relevant info into a form, Chrome will save this data only with your permission and protect it through encryption. And before filling in saved info on your behalf, Chrome will ask you to confirm, keeping you in full control of your data.”

The new features follow a string of recent Chrome updates that have focused on usability and safety. Last month, Google rolled out changes to automatically silence intrusive website notifications on mobile, cutting down on unwanted interruptions. And in September, Chrome received its biggest AI-powered overhaul yet, introducing new generative features designed to make browsing more personalized and efficient.

Google says the company plans to support even more types of data with autofill in the coming months, further building on its goal of making the browser a more powerful, secure, and intelligent tool for everyday use.

All that’s left now is for your browser to start clicking and scrolling for you as well. Wait, isn’t that already a thing on Chrome?

This sounds good, but it doesn't actually work.

I tried to amend my passport number on a particular website and the password info failed to populate.

You're better off using a third party password manager especially since there are free utilities online that can reveal your Chrome passwords if they're stored locally.

Besides, the blog above is written like an ad and fails to be written in neutral language.

Gary, maybe it's time to have a sit-down with your collaborators and have them avoid using such framing?
