OpenAI’s Viral Sora App Finally Comes to Android Users in Canada

OpenAI’s Sora app, which turns text prompts and images into realistic AI-generated videos, is now available for Android users in Canada, finally joining iOS users. Today’s Sora Android app also launches in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the U.S., and Vietnam.
Sora lets users type a sentence or upload an image to create short, cinematic clips complete with sound. The app can produce anything from live-action scenes to anime-style shorts, and users can also remix and share videos created by others. The videos are so real it’s kind of scary. A “Sora” watermark floats over published videos to let users know it’s AI-generated.
Sora is developed by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, and is powered by the company’s Sora 2 model, launched in late September. The latest version supports “cameos,” which let users record short videos of themselves so the AI can insert their likeness—voice, expressions, and all—into generated scenes.
The Sora iOS app debuted earlier this fall and quickly became a viral hit, reaching one million downloads in under five days, outpacing ChatGPT’s launch.
The Android rollout expands access to one of the most talked-about creative AI apps, giving more users the ability to “turn words into worlds.” Remember, nothing is real anymore on the internet. You’ve been warned. You can click here to download Sora in Google Play.
