Telus Profit Jumps 68% in Q3 Despite Slower Wireless Growth
Telus saw its profit climb in the third quarter of 2025, even though growth in its wireless business slowed and average phone revenue slipped.
The company made $431 million in profit, up 68% from a year ago, thanks partly to one-time gains from a debt repurchase. Adjusted profit, which excludes those gains, dropped 10% to $370 million, showing core operations were a bit weaker. Total revenue stayed flat at $5.1 billion.
Telus added 82,000 new postpaid mobile customers, down from 130,000 last year, as competition heated up and population growth cooled. Prepaid subscribers fell by 11,000, compared to a gain of 4,000 a year earlier. Telus now has 10.3 million mobile phone subscribers.
Wireless churn—the share of customers leaving to a competitor—edged up slightly to 1.11% from 1.09%, while the industry metric average monthly revenue per user (ARPU) fell 2.8% to $57.21.
Still, Telus grew in other areas. It added 169,000 connected devices like smart meters and vehicle trackers (up 6%) and gained 40,000 internet subscribers, up 18% from last year. However, TV additions plunged to 5,000, down from 21,000, and home phone losses widened to 14,000 from 9,000.
Overall, Telus now counts 20.8 million total telecom connections, up 5% year over year. Free cash flow rose 8% to $611 million, while capital spending eased 2% to $652 million as network builds slowed. The company also raised its dividend to $0.4184 per share, a 4% increase from 2024.
“In the third quarter of 2025, Telus delivered another period of strong customer growth and robust financial performance, powered by our team’s relentless focus on operational excellence,” said CEO Darren Entwistle in a statement.
Despite weaker phone sales, Telus reaffirmed its 2025 financial outlook but cautioned that revenue growth from its core telecom and health units will likely come in at the low end of forecasts
