Ookla’s New ‘Speedtest Pulse’ Snaps On with MagSafe to the iPhone

Ookla has announced Speedtest Pulse, a new network testing device designed to help internet service providers and enterprise IT teams validate and troubleshoot network performance directly from a smartphone.

The device builds on Ookla’s Speedtest platform and includes two operating modes. Active Pulse is used by technicians to verify network performance during installation or identify issues with wired, Wi-Fi, or specific client devices. It runs a guided test and generates a performance report showing how the network performs at installation. There’s a small touchscreen display on the back that shows data and metrics from the tests.

A second mode, Continuous Pulse, expected in 2026, is designed to remain on-site to collect ongoing performance data. This feature helps detect intermittent issues or performance degradation before users report them.

Speedtest Pulse connects to Ookla’s Speedtest Insights system, which combines test results with data from over 15,000 global servers. This integration allows teams to establish baselines, monitor performance trends, and compare results across sites for troubleshooting or service validation.

The hardware includes Wi-Fi 7 tri-band radios, Ethernet (1 Gbps), Bluetooth, and USB-C connectivity. It runs on USB-C power or Power over Ethernet and features a 2.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with hardened glass.

Ookla confirmed with iPhone in Canada that Speedtest Pulse is MagSafe compatible, so it can attach easily to the back of compatible iPhones. The device connects to the phone app via USB-C at launch, with Bluetooth wireless connectivity planned for early next year.

The company says Speedtest Pulse provides a consistent way for technicians and IT teams to measure connectivity, verify installations, and address network issues across multiple locations.
