Google Maps Now Tells You Exactly Which Tesla Chargers Are Free

Google Maps now shows live availability data for Tesla Superchargers right in the app, giving electric vehicle drivers an easier way to find open charging stalls nearby. Tesla announced the new integration on X this week, and it’s already live for users across supported regions (via Tesla North).
While Tesla owners have long enjoyed real-time Supercharger data through the Tesla app, Trip Planner, and in-car navigation, the new Google Maps integration brings that same functionality to a wider audience — including non-Tesla EV drivers. The feature displays how many stalls are currently available at any given station, helping drivers plan stops more efficiently and avoid unnecessary waits.
“For non-Teslas using Superchargers, live availability is now in Google Maps,” said Tesla’s Director of Charging, Max de Zegher, in a post on X following the rollout. “The next step for navigation providers is to go beyond live availability and also show real-time wait time, forecasted availability, and dynamically re-route customers based on forecasts. This is something Tesla Trip Planner has been doing for years.”
De Zegher also noted that the “Open Charge Point Interface” standard Tesla uses supports forecasted availability through reciprocal traffic sharing. “Not knowing incoming demand is like air traffic control not knowing what planes are inbound,” he added, emphasizing Tesla’s commitment to improving coordination with third-party navigation platforms like Google Maps.
The move aligns with Google’s broader push to enhance Maps with AI-driven features. The company recently rolled out a major update allowing its Gemini assistant to talk back to users, making navigation more conversational and context-aware.
Tesla, meanwhile, continues to expand what it calls the world’s largest EV fast-charging network. The automaker added a record 4,000 new Supercharger stalls globally in Q3 2025 and logged an all-time high of 587,000 charging sessions per day.
Between Google’s AI-powered upgrades and Tesla’s network expansion, finding and using a Supercharger just became faster — and smarter — than ever.
