Disney+ Says New Hulu-Branded Redesign Now Rolling Out in Canada
Disney+ Canada has confirmed with iPhone in Canada that a major redesign tied to Hulu’s global expansion is now rolling out across the country.
The update follows Disney’s October 8 announcement that Hulu would become the platform’s new General Entertainment brand worldwide, replacing Star in international markets.
The shift marks the first step toward a fully unified Disney+ and Hulu experience expected next year. As part of the transition, users in Canada will begin seeing new Hulu integrations across the Disney+ app. Disney says the changes will appear gradually over the coming weeks.
The company previously said that bringing the Hulu brand to Disney+ is meant to simplify how subscribers find TV and movies across Disney’s catalog. With Hulu’s arrival as a global brand, the platform is adopting updated design elements, navigation tweaks, and early steps toward a combined Disney+/Hulu home screen experience.
Hulu started in the U.S. back in 2008 as a joint service from NBC and Fox, with Disney joining later. It became known for offering next-day TV episodes and eventually built up a sizeable ad-supported streaming library, including originals like The Handmaid’s Tale. Disney gained control of the platform after acquiring 21st Century Fox in 2019, and it secured full ownership last year.
But Hulu never launched in Canada because many of its shows were already licensed to Canadian broadcasters. To fill that gap, Disney introduced Star inside Disney+ as its international home for general entertainment. That approach changed as of October.
Disney also framed this rollout as part of a longer-term evolution of the app, with more updates planned ahead of next year’s unified experience. Disney+ says the redesign will continue to expand to Canadian users on a rolling basis. Let us know if you’re seeing in the Disney+ app on your devices yet or not.
