Rogers Adds New Free Perks to Wireless Plans: What’s Changed

Rogers has made some changes to its wireless plans today, adding some new plan perks, depending on which one you’re getting.

Right now, all plans priced from $70 or higher now include free Citytv+ for 3 months when you subscribe. For the premium $85/175GB Canada-US and $105/250GB Global plans, a new perk is 12 months free Uber One (a $9.99/month value). These perks join the existing offers of 25% off Roam Like Home for plans $85 and above, plus 30% off Device Protection and $5/month off Sportsnet+ for 12 months.

Back in October, we saw perks of free Sportsnet+ for the first 3 months.

These perks come ahead of expected Boxing Day offers later this month.

Don’t call it a perk if it expires.

Lord Canada is, simply put, the biggest rip off, on internet and cell plans. $70 for a basic plan is criminal. Problem is Canadians fall for dumb gimmicks like 250GBs when I don't even get close to that on our home internet. So rather than lowering prices, they add more "features", up the prices and fool gullable consumers into "look what I'm getting!!!, even though it's already well over priced.

Agreed! The other issue is that the average consumer will not put in the effort to find better offers from other providers. If one is willing to put in minimal effort, one can almost always find a better deal. Suffering with the current status quo is optional!

To a certain extent. There’s always a catch. The plan may be great but to buy the phone on top is $$$. I’m doing my research now and either way, regardless of provider, you’re getting screwed one way or another.

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. For me, I was able to snag a great winback plan recently for two lines (one of them with a phone for $0). I think part of why I was fortunate in my case is because I'm always willing to switch carriers instead of wasting time dealing with their so-called "loyalty" departments. I also keep close watch on redflagdeals forums for the latest news on carrier deals.

Being a BYOD customer helps also. See a better advertised offer from a competing carrier? Jump ship! In most cases this will often trigger a callback from your carrier's "winback" team with better offers that aren't typically advertised on their websites. This is the way to leverage better offers these days. I've been successfully utilizing this strategy for a long time and have been watching my phone and internet bills decrease over the years. Honestly, "being screwed" is optional imho.

I am a BYOD customer but my phone is 8 years old. I’ve switched between Bell and Videotron twice in the last few months which is why my plan is OK but to add a phone I have to change plans which will cost more $$$ for a rapier plan. Videotron mislead customers with advertised prices. I looked at Fizz and the plans are great but if I add a phone I’m paying $80+.

Device Protection isn't actually protecting the device.. it's also a money making scheme where they'll ask for $129 for hardware repair and $300 for replacement but value assessment on all devices into zero dollars. So don't get it. It's a big scam.
