OnePlus 15R Unboxing: This Feels Way More Premium Than Expected

We’ve had some early hands-on time with the new OnePlus 15R, and our first impression is simple. This is a really solid phone that feels more premium than we expected.

The unit we were sent came in Mint Breeze, and it’s a great colour in person. It’s light, clean, and different without being loud. The phone feels excellent in the hand, with a flat aluminum mid-frame that gives it a sturdy, confident feel. Honestly, the build quality is what stood out the most. It feels right up there with iPhone-level hardware, OnePlus has been doing it right.

Design-wise, the 15R clearly takes cues from the OnePlus 15, and that’s a good thing. The flat edges look sharp, the antennas are neatly integrated, and the overall finish feels carefully thought out. Around the back, both colour options use a smooth glass finish that has a slightly hazy look to it. It’s subtle, but it works. The Charcoal Black version will appeal to anyone who wants something low-key, while Mint Breeze feels fresh and modern.

OnePlus also didn’t cheap out on charging. The 15R supports 55W SUPERVOOC charging with the charger included in the box, which is always nice to see. If you already have OnePlus’ 100W Dual Ports GaN charger, you can push it even faster with 80W charging.

OnePlus also sent over its Sandstone Magnetic Case, and it’s exactly what you’d expect if you’ve used Sandstone cases before. It’s thin, has that familiar grippy texture, and fits the 15R super tight with no wiggle at all.

Here’s what’s inside the box. You get a USB-C charging cable and still an AC adapter in 2025, which is a bonus:

Since this is just a hands-on, we’re keeping things focused on feel and design for now. Based on that alone, the OnePlus 15R already feels like a strong addition to the lineup. It looks great, feels premium, and doesn’t come across as a compromise device at all.
You can click here to check out the OnePlus 15R on the company’s website–there are some pretty good offers right now ahead of the December 17th launch in Canada, with pricing and more details to come (we already know it has a massive battery and uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5).
