OnePlus 15R Just Beat Everyone to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip was officially detailed today, and OnePlus confirmed it will be the first company to ship it inside an upcoming device, the OnePlus 15R.
The chip marks a big leap over the previous generation, with a 36 percent CPU jump, an 11 percent GPU boost, and far stronger on-device AI. Qualcomm and OnePlus spent roughly two years co-developing the processor, much longer than the usual tuning cycle, and the two companies shaped everything from performance and gaming to imaging, display handling, and connectivity.
Qualcomm’s Chris Patrick called the partnership key to pushing the new platform. “Qualcomm Technologies is proud to collaborate with OnePlus for their newest device powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Mobile Platform,” he said. “By combining our latest premium platform with OnePlus’s commitment to performance, we’re enabling users to experience new levels of speed, intelligence, and eXiciency.”
The technical name for the chip is 8845, and it will also appear in the OnePlus Ace 6 in China. The companies say the goal is for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 to be one of 2025’s top-performing mobile processors.
More details on the OnePlus 15R will arrive closer to its December 17th launch in Canada.
