Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Spin-off Announced, Centering on Wyatt Russell’s Lee Shaw

Ahead of the second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Apple has announced a spin-off centring on Wyatt Russel’s Lee Shaw is now in production.

Apple TV is expanding its partnership with Legendary’s Monsterverse with an untitled “Young Lee Shaw prequel.” The series is confirmed to see Wyatt Russell reprising his role as Colonel Lee Shaw. The spin-off is said to follow Shaw in 1984 when he went on “a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.”

Wyatt Russel had a supporting role in the first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The character of Lee Shaw was played by both Wyatt Russel and father Kurt Russel, who played the character in the 2015 timeline of the series. Shaw is a founding member of the company Monarch and is one of the lead investigators into the Titans.

The series sees Emmy Award-nominated screenwriter and producer Joby Harold jump in as showrunner. Harold is now overseeing Legendary’s entire Monsterverse franchise for Apple TV. As the slate of content expands, Harold has already been serving as an executive producer on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which returns to Apple TV on Friday, February 27, 2026.

“Viewers around the world haven’t been able to get enough of ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ since its global debut, and we cannot wait to unleash the electrifying new stories that Joby and the entire cast and creative team have been working on,” Morgan Wandell, head of international content development for Apple TV, says in a press release.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is the sixth core entry in the Monsterverse, alongside films like Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, and the more recent Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The sequel film, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, is in production and is set to release in 2027.
