Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters Smashes 500 Million Views Worldwide

KPop Demon Hunters has officially crossed 500 million views worldwide on Netflix, turning the animated film into one of the platform’s biggest global hits.

Netflix celebrated the milestone on Tuesday, saying, “Who’s the baddest? Them, hello! Congratulations to the cast, creators, and entire team behind KPop Demon Hunters for reaching 500 MILLION views globally on Netflix!”

Released this year in June, the film is an animated action-comedy musical produced by Sony Pictures Animation. It follows a world-famous K-pop girl group called Huntrix, whose members secretly live double lives as demon hunters. By day, they perform sold-out concerts. By night, they battle supernatural threats using powers rooted in ancient traditions.

The story mixes high-energy K-pop performances with flashy fight scenes and pulls heavily from Korean mythology and shamanism. The main conflict sees Huntrix facing off against a rival boy band, the Saja Boys, who are secretly demons in disguise.

The movie was co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, with Kang previously describing the project as a personal love letter to K-pop and her Korean heritage. The idea was first pitched in 2018 and slowly grew into a full feature backed by Netflix. I can’t tell you the number of times this movie has been watched in our household by the kids. The movie’s soundtrack has also helped propel its success too.
