KPop Demon Hunters Becomes Netflix’s Most Popular Film, Crossing 236 Million Views

KPop Demon Hunters is now Netflix’s ‘Most Popular Film’, the streamer has announced. Since its release on the service in June, the animated musical film has amassed a ton of popularity.

The Sony-produced animated film is quickly becoming a cultural hit. The film has now been viewed for a total of 236 million times on the service, Netflix announces. The film now sits in the number one spoton the English Film list. Last week alone, KPop Demon Hunters recieved 25.4 million views.

The film has outranked other popular films on Netflix, like Night Always Comes, which sits at second with 12.3 million views. Coming in third is Welcome to Sudden Death, which recieved 6.2 million views this past week.

Sony Pictures Animation produced the film. Having made other critically acclaimed animated films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. the Machines, the popularity of KPop Demon Hunters must have come as a bit of a surprise. Sony opted to sell the distribution rights to Netflix rather than conduct a proper theatrical run for the film.

However, that quickly changed this past week. In Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, a limited theatrical run for the Kpop Demon Hunters The Sing-Along Event was held. Inviting fans to come to theatres, see the film, and sing along with the soundtrack, KPop Demon Hunters finally recieved its theatrical dues. For those who were unable to make it to theatres, the KPop Hunters Sing-Along is now available to stream on Netflix.

Outside of streaming and theatrical distribution, the film’s soundtrack has also made its way to being the first to have four simultaneous Top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

If it had. A proper full theatrical run it would have been even bigger on the streaming service. The ceo should be kicked.
