How to Replace Your AirTag Battery in Under a Minute

Apple has shared a new how to video on the Apple Support YouTube channel showing how easy it is to replace the battery in an AirTag. The process is quick and does not require any tools.

This video is of course geared towards those new to AirTags (which are on sale right now for Boxing Week). AirTags are a must-have to toss into your checked luggage ahead of any holiday travel.

Start by pressing down on the stainless steel back cover of the AirTag and rotating it counterclockwise until it stops. Once it loosens, remove the cover and take out the battery.

Next, insert a new battery with the positive side facing up. After that, line up the three tabs on the cover with the three slots on the AirTag. Press down and rotate the cover clockwise until it stops.

You will hear a sound from the AirTag. That sound means the battery is connected and working. Apple also reminds users to keep coin batteries away from small children. A bitterant coated CR2032 lithium coin battery can help discourage accidental ingestion. Make sure the packaging says it is compatible with AirTag, as some bitter coated batteries may not work properly.

Check out the video below if you’re a visual learner. Interestingly enough, this time around Apple made the video format optimized for mobile viewers in portrait mode, instead of a regular video on YouTube:
