Apple has revealed details of its Japan New Year Sale for 2026, announcing a highly anticipated offer that includes a free limited edition AirTag for qualifying iPhone buyers.
The promotion runs for four days at the start of January, bringing exclusive rewards and significant gift card value to customers who shop at Apple retail locations and online in Japan (via MacRumors).
This year’s promotion runs from January 2 through January 5 and continues Apple’s tradition of special New Year deals in Japan. During this event, customers who purchase eligible Apple products can receive Apple Gift Cards worth up to approximately ¥38,000 depending on the device they choose. Most notably, buyers of certain iPhone models will also get a custom engraved limited edition AirTag.
The AirTag features an engraving of a Daruma design, a traditional Japanese talisman associated with luck, perseverance and the fulfillment of personal goals. This cultural symbol has long been part of Japanese New Year celebrations, and this year Apple is incorporating it into its promotional hardware to make the device both functional and collectible.
Only 65,000 units of this special edition AirTag will be available, and they are being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to qualifying customers.
To qualify for the free AirTag, customers must purchase an eligible iPhone model from Apple’s Japan stores or the official Apple Japan online store during the promotional period. Eligible devices include the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and the new iPhone 16e. In addition to the AirTag, purchasers of these iPhone models will also receive an Apple Gift Card valued at up to ¥12,000.
Other Apple products are included in the New Year Sale gift card offers, even if they do not come with the AirTag. Desktop and laptop Macs earn buyers Apple Gift Cards worth up to ¥38,000, iPad purchases qualify for up to ¥15,000, and Apple Watch buyers can receive up to ¥8,000.
