Apple Is Making a Big Change in Downtown Montreal: What’s Coming
Apple is moving its downtown Montreal Apple Store to a new location, with the new Apple Sainte-Catherine set to officially open on Friday, January 16 at 10am local time.
The store is relocating to a historic building at the corner of Sainte-Catherine Street and Rue de la Montagne. Apple says the move gives the long-running location a new home while keeping it right in the heart of downtown, according to an email to iPhone in Canada.
To mark the opening, Apple teamed up with Montreal artist Catherine Potvin to create a large illustration that covers the outside of the store. The artwork pulls inspiration from Montreal’s creative scene and includes subtle nods to local culture along Sainte-Catherine Street.
If you look closely, the illustration also features Apple products in everyday use, like someone drawing on an iPad, a DJ wearing AirPods Max, a photographer using an iPhone, a person coding on a MacBook, and a yogi wearing an Apple Watch. The artwork will stay up until the store officially opens, says Apple.
Potvin will also be at the store during opening weekend for live art demos on iPad. Customers who make a purchase during those sessions can get an Apple Store gift bag illustrated by her.
Live art demo times are below:
- Friday, January 16, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Saturday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Reports of the Montreal Apple Store moving to a new location started over two years ago, and now it’s finally becoming a reality. Back in 2020, the store shut down suddenly, only to be revealed it was due to COVID-19.
Apple Sainte-Catherine originally opened in 2008 at 1321 Sainte-Catherine Street. Apple currently operates five retail stores in Quebec and 28 across Canada.
