Google TV Is Getting Smarter and It’s Powered by Gemini

Google has announced new Gemini-powered features coming to Google TV, giving users more ways to interact with their TV using voice, photos, and natural language.

The updates were previewed at CES 2026, where Google showed how Gemini will make Google TV more visual and easier to use. The company says the goal is to turn the TV into a more helpful hub for entertainment, information, and personal content.

One of the biggest changes is how Gemini answers questions. Instead of just text, responses can now include images, videos, and live information like sports updates. For bigger or more complicated topics, Google is adding “Deep dives,” which are narrated, interactive explainers designed to be easy for the whole family to follow.

Google is also bringing deeper photo features to the TV. Users will be able to search their Google Photos library using Gemini to find specific people or moments. From there, they can apply artistic effects, remix photos, or turn memories into cinematic-style slideshows directly on the TV.

Creative tools are also coming to Google TV. Using features like Nano Banana and Veo, users can reimagine personal photos or create original media without needing another device.

Another update focuses on making TV settings less frustrating. Instead of digging through menus, users can talk naturally to Gemini. Saying things like “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue” will automatically adjust picture and sound settings while a show or movie is playing, explained Shalini GovilPai, VP, Google TV, on Monday.

Google says these new Gemini features will roll out first on select TCL Google TV devices, with more Google TV hardware getting support over the coming months. Google has not yet confirmed which countries will get the features first, or when they will be available in Canada. Stay tuned.
