PlayStation has announced that Marathon, the upcoming PvPvE extraction shooter from Destiny studio Bungie, will arrive on March 5th. To coincide with the release across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, PlayStation is launching a Marathon-inspired DualSense controller.
Via the PlayStation Blog, the company released a brand new trailer, narrated by Gantry, a MIDA faction agent from the game. As a faction agent, Gantry is one of six characters offering missions to players to complete while surviving each raid on Tau Ceti IV. Players must use every tool available, including weapons mods, Runner shells, faction upgrades, and more, to survive the world’s threats and other players.
Marathon’s English voice cast has been revealed. Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption 2), Samantha Béart (Baldur’s Gate 3), Ben Starr (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33), Elias Toufexis (Deus Ex: Human Revolution) and more are featured within the game.
Marathon‘s release has been somewhat tremulous. The game was originally slated for September 2025. However, the game recieved lukewarm reception during its original alpha playtests. In May of last year, Marathon was also accused of plagiarism by Scottish independent artist Fern “Antireal” Hook. The artist showed in-game designs from Marathon that appeared highly unaltered from those she created and posted publicly in 2017. The matter has been resolved as of December, however.
In addition to confirming the new release date, PlayStation announced a new DualSense controller design. “We set out to create a design that paid homage to the bold graphic design, vibrant color and visual art direction of the game and its industrial design, architecture and environmental surfaces and equipment,” the blog post says.
The limited-edition Marathon DualSense features a bright green pattern, inspired by the game’s quite remarkable style and use of colours. Preorders for the controller begin on January 29th at 10 AM local time across participating retailers. The controller is launching at $84 USD (around $116 CAD).
