Wealthsimple has launched a new in-app contest that gives users a chance to win real gold, yet again.
The promotion, called Spin the Coin, is running from February 2 to February 28, 2026. During the contest, Wealthsimple is giving away 15 one-ounce gold coins, with each coin valued at about $6,670, based on gold prices at the end of January. In total, the prizes are worth more than $100,000.
To enter, users need to open the Wealthsimple app and spin a virtual coin once per day (at the very bottom of the main screen). Each daily spin earns entries into the draw. The first spin gives users 100 entries, while future spins award a random number of entries ranging from 10 to 100,000. Spins reset daily at 11:59 p.m. ET, and unused spins do not carry over.
The more days a user spins, the more entries they earn and the better their odds of winning.
The contest is open to new and existing Wealthsimple clients who are Canadian residents and have reached the age of majority in their province or territory. Quebec residents are eligible to participate. Wealthsimple employees and their immediate family members are excluded.
Winners will be selected at random on March 13, 2026, and notified by email within three business days. To claim the prize, winners must correctly answer a skill-testing question, complete a release form, and have a non-registered self-directed investing account with Wealthsimple.
The gold coins must be accepted as awarded, with no cash alternative. Any taxes, storage costs, insurance, or future capital gains related to the prize are the responsibility of the winner.
At the ‘For Nerds Only’ event back in October, Wealthsimple unveiled several major platform updates, including the introduction of gold trading. This feature allows Canadians to trade gold 24/7 with a minimum investment of just one dollar. The company also minted its own physical gold coins available for purchase. This second gold contest appears to be an extension of those October announcements.
