OLED MacBook Pro Said to Launch in 2026
A new report from The Elec citing supply chain sources is claiming that the first OLED MacBook Pro models are officially on track to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026 (via MacRumors).
The Korean publication notes that Samsung Display is gearing up to begin mass production of 8.6-generation OLED panels as early as May 2026. These high-end displays are earmarked specifically for Apple’s professional laptop lineup, with Samsung planning to ship approximately two million units to Apple before the end of the year.
The transition from mini-LED to OLED represents the most significant display overhaul for the MacBook Pro since the 2021 redesign. While the current mini-LED screens are highly praised for their brightness, OLED technology will bring deeper blacks, faster response times, and “infinite” contrast ratios.
Perhaps more importantly for mobile professionals, OLED is expected to improve power efficiency, which could lead to even longer battery life. Additionally, because OLED panels are thinner than their LCD counterparts, Apple is reportedly using the space savings to create a slimmer and lighter chassis.
The OLED MacBook Pro is expected to debut in the usual 14-inch and 16-inch sizes. Under the hood, these machines will likely be powered by the next-generation M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max chips. Industry analysts suggest this will be more than just a spec bump; it is being described as a “complete overhaul” of the device.
There are also persistent rumors that Apple could introduce a touchscreen for the first time on a Mac with this release, along with a potential move away from the notch in favor of a Dynamic Island or hole-punch camera.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that 2026 could be a double-header year for the MacBook Pro. We may see a standard refresh with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips early in the year, followed by the groundbreaking OLED redesign in the fall.
While Samsung is currently the sole supplier linked to this year’s production, China’s BOE is also reportedly competing for a spot in the supply chain. However, only Samsung-equipped units are expected to be available for the initial 2026 launch.
