New Sony WF-1000XM6 to be Revealed on February 12

Sony is teasing a reveal of its WF-1000XM6 audio earbuds. A formal announcement of the upcoming buds are slated for February 12 at 11 AM ET/8 AM PT.

On Sony Electronics’ official YouTube channel, a short teaser was published. Revealing a brief glimpse of a silhouette of the WF-1000XM6, the video doesn’t give too much away. The video also hints that the “next generation of earbuds” is “coming soon.” Beyond that, however, Sony is keeping things close to its chest. The video doesn’t even have a description available.

While not explicitly announcing the WF-1000XM6 buds, the successor to 2023’s WF-1000XM5 has long been reported. Earlier this month, The Walkman Blog reported that the WF-1000XM6 buds were on their way. Power Buy accidentally posted a listing for the next-gen audio device and then quickly taken down.

The listing highlights a modest design change from the WF-1000XM5. The new buds will supposedly offer a more rounded pill-shaped design. The charging case now features a flat top and bottom, allowing it to sit flush on a surface. It’s also shown to be launching in a white and black colourway.

It remains to be seen if the WF-1000XM6 offers any next-gen features or improvements to its active noise cancellation or transparency modes. The 2023 WF-1000XM5 launched in June 2023 and features both ANC and ambient sound features. The audio buds offer up to a 12-hour battery life with ANC off. The wireless charging case supports an additional 7 hours.

The arrive of the WF-1000XM6 follows the recent launch of the LinkBuds Clip, Sony’s new pair of open-ear earbuds. The new always-on buds arrive at $229.99 USD (approximately $299.99 CAD) and come with a C-shaped design that wraps around the side of your ear, sitting inside your ear canal, unlike a traditional pair of buds.

We’re still awaiting confirmation of the release date and pricing. The earlier leaked listing noted a price of THB 11,990 (roughly $518.43 CAD). Time will tell whether this is a placeholder price or if the new WF-1000XM6 will truly be a premium-priced pair of wireless buds.
