Apple Podcasts Subscriptions Are Finally Getting Video

Video streaming setup across devices: large TV with a host, laptop, tablet, smartphone, and VR headset.

Apple Podcasts is finally bringing video to paid subscriptions, giving creators a way to offer subscriber-only video, ad-free video, early access and bonus content directly inside the app.

Apple says the feature is coming soon to Apple Podcasts Subscriptions and will be available to audiences in more than 170 countries and regions. The company announced the expansion this week, saying creators will be able to deliver both audio and video without maintaining separate offerings or workflows.

It’s a notable addition because Apple has already made a much bigger push into video podcasts this year, but paid Apple Podcasts Subscriptions have remained audio-only. Apple’s own support documentation still describes subscriptions that way today.

Creators will be able to use video for subscriber-exclusive episodes, ad-free viewing, early access releases and bonus content. Apple says premium video will work across Apple devices and the web, while podcast hosting providers are being brought in to support the new workflow.

The move builds on Apple’s broader video podcast rollout earlier this year. In February, Apple announced a new HLS-based video experience that lets listeners move between audio and video, watch full-screen, download video for offline viewing and automatically adjust video quality based on network conditions.

Apple Podcasts also now supports video on more platforms. With iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 and tvOS 27, video episodes can include read-along transcripts, chapters and media links, while the redesigned Apple Podcasts app on Apple TV supports video podcasts directly.

For creators, the bigger change is monetization. Apple says video can now fit into the same subscription business model already used for premium audio, giving podcasters another way to sell content directly to listeners instead of relying entirely on advertising or third-party video platforms.

Apple hasn’t given an exact launch date for premium video subscriptions yet. It says more details will come from participating podcast hosting providers in the coming months.
