Google has officially locked in the dates for its annual developer conference, with Google I/O 2026 returning to the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View from May 19-20, 2026. While some developers will be there in person, the rest of us can catch the entire show online at io.google.

This year’s teaser features a Gemini-powered playground where you can mess around with AI to unlock the official save-the-date. Expect the actual event to be packed with updates on Android 17, the next generation of Gemini models, and more agentic AI features that do tasks for you rather than just answering questions.

Last year’s conference was a major turning point where Google shifted from showing off AI research to putting it into every product we use. The star of the show was Project Astra, which turned the phone camera into a real-time assistant that could see and remember its surroundings like a digital pair of eyes.

We also saw the launch of Gemini 2.5 and its Deep Think mode for complex reasoning, alongside Project Mariner for automating multi-step tasks like booking travel.

On the hardware front, Google revealed Android XR for smart glasses and Google Beam, a 3D video calling tech that makes it feel like the person you’re talking to is in the same room without needing a headset. Android 16 also made an early appearance with its Material 3 Expressive UI, rounding out a year where AI became the foundation for everything from Search to your car.

Currently, Gemini 3 is already front and centre and it’ll interesting to see what Google has next in store for its AI breakthroughs.
