Skip the Studio: Google’s New Photoshoot AI Tool Is Free for Canadians

Google Labs has officially released a major update to its Pomelli AI marketing platform, introducing a high-tech tool called Photoshoot. This new feature aims to eliminate the need for expensive studio equipment by allowing small business owners and marketers to generate pro-quality product imagery from a single smartphone snapshot.
With Photoshoot, users can start from a single image of their product and easily create high-quality, customized product shots to elevate their marketing. The AI analyzes the product and places it into a fully rendered scene with realistic lighting and shadows. Instead of just removing a background, the tool allows for complete environment customization to match a specific brand aesthetic.
“Skip the cost and complexity of traditional photoshoots and generate compelling, on-brand images of your products,” explains Google. Yeah, sorry pro photographers you may be losing some work here.
Background: The Growth of Pomelli
Launched as an experimental project within Google Labs, Pomelli was developed in collaboration with Google DeepMind. It was designed as an all-in-one marketing assistant for businesses that lack the budget for a full creative team. The platform originally gained traction for its ability to scan a website URL and automatically generate social media posts and ad copy.
Earlier this year, Google expanded its capabilities to include video generation, and the addition of Photoshoot now provides a solution for professional-grade photography.
How the Pomelli Workflow Works
Getting started with the platform follows a streamlined three-step process designed for speed and consistency. First, users generate their Business DNA by entering their company website. The AI crawls the site to analyze brand elements, including colour palettes, typography, and messaging tone, to ensure every piece of content feels authentic to the business.
Once the DNA is established, the tool provides tailored campaign ideas. It uses the brand profile to suggest marketing concepts that are relevant to the specific industry and business goals. Finally, users generate the actual creatives. This is where the new Photoshoot feature sits, allowing for the production of high-quality, on-brand visuals that are ready to share across social media and advertising channels.
Okay so just how well does Photoshoot work? Actually too well and it’s downright amazing. We uploaded a picture of some ski goggles and it created the following in a matter of minutes. This is something that would have required hiring a photographer, models and post-processing:
Availability and Cost
In a move that provides significant value to local entrepreneurs, Google is offering Pomelli Photoshoot completely free of charge. The feature is currently available to users in Canada (yay), the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. Business owners can get started today by visiting the official Google Labs Pomelli portal here.
