Woody Returns: Watch The New Toy Story 5 Trailer Released Today

Toy story 5 trailer 2.

Disney and Pixar released a brand-new trailer for Toy Story 5 today, giving fans a deeper look at the high-tech threat facing the beloved gang of toys. It’s crazy to think the first Toy Story was released 30 years ago.

While the teaser in November introduced the concept of “Toy meets Tech,” this latest footage highlights the high-stakes reunion of Woody and Buzz Lightyear.

The plot follows the toys as they face an existential crisis: a new tablet device named Lilypad has arrived in Bonnie’s room. Voiced by Greta Lee, Lilypad is a sleek, frog-shaped smart device that quickly begins convincing Bonnie that electronics are the future of playtime. The trailer shows the traditional toys quivering in fear as they realize they are being replaced by screens and “disruptive ideas.”

The most emotional moment of the trailer confirms that Woody is officially back in the fold. After leaving the group at the end of 2019’s Toy Story 4 to help lost toys, Woody returns to lead the charge against the digital takeover. The trailer teases a massive team-up between the old-school toys and some familiar faces to ensure that analogue playtime doesn’t become a thing of the past.

Several new actors have joined the voice cast for this instalment. Craig Robinson voices Atlas, a cheerful GPS-enabled hippo toy, while Matty Matheson plays Dr. Nutcase, a toy who is vocally terrified of modern technology. Other newcomers include Shelby Rabara as Snappy the camera toy and Conan O’Brien as a tech-focused toilet training toy named Smarty Pants (can’t wait for this).

The film also sees the return of franchise staples including Joan Cusack as Jessie, Wallace Shawn as Rex, and John Ratzenberger as Hamm. Notably, Ernie Hudson has taken over the role of Combat Carl following the passing of Carl Weathers, and Jeff Bergman and Anna Vocino now voice Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. Keanu Reeves is also back as the Canadian daredevil Duke Caboom.

Directed by Andrew Stanton (from WALL-E and Finding Nemo), the film aims to tackle the modern struggle parents and children face with screen time (the struggle is real). With a soundtrack by the returning Randy Newman, Toy Story 5 is set to hit theatres exclusively on June 19, 2026. It will eventually make its way to Disney+ but of course you’ll have to wait until after the theatrical release.
