LEGO and Nintendo Tease New Mario Sets for 2027

LEGO and Nintendo are teasing a new batch of Super Mario sets, on their way to release sometime in 2027. The LEGO Group and Nintendo released a very short teaser trailer to accompany the news.

It’s been six years since LEGO began selling Super Mario and a brand new batch is on the way, according to the company. Announced on X (formerly Twitter), Nintendo reveals that “New sets [are] coming in 2027.” The video shows the iconic plumber himself popping up from a Warp Pipe in minifig form.

One thing to note is that the minifig shown in the video is unlike most LEGO minifigs. The Mario minifig has a head that’s far more representative of Mario’s true look. Which, even Nintendo notes in their post, saying “New form unlocked!”

LEGO and Nintendo began collaborating on Super Mario-themed sets in 2020. The two companies came together to celebrate the franchise’s 35th anniversary with a set allowing players to create their own Super Mario levels. The set includes an interactive Mario figure with built-in electronic components, including LED eyes and a mouth. There’s also a scanner in the chest that can read codes from enemies, power-ups, Warp Pipes, etc. Over time, additional sets were created, bringing in characters like Luigi, Princess Peach and more into the fold.

These interactive sets aren’t the only ones LEGO and Nintendo have worked on together. In 2022, LEGO released the Super Mario ‘The Mighty Bowser’ building kit, allowing fans to build a large-sized Bowser. Last year, a 1,972-piece LEGO Super Mario: Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart set was released. A personal favourite of mine is the Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set, inspired by Super Mario World, which also released last year.
