Google Brings ‘Vibe Design’ to App Creation with New AI Stitch Canvas

Google stitch vibe design.

Google is jumping on the vibe coding trend by turning its Stitch platform into an AI native canvas for what it calls ‘vibe design’, powered by Gemini.

The goal is to let anyone build high-quality software interfaces just by describing the look and feel they want, rather than manually building wireframes from scratch. It works by taking a simple business plan or a specific design and instantly turning those ideas into functional designs, all thanks to your prompts.

The new interface features an infinite canvas where you can toss in images, text, or code to give the AI context. A new design agent tracks the entire history of a project, allowing it to reason through different versions. There is also an Agent Manager that helps you experiment with multiple design directions at once without losing track of your progress.

To keep things consistent across different projects, Google introduced Design.md. This is a special markdown file that stores design rules, making it easy to move styles between different tools or projects. You can even pull an existing design system directly from a URL to get a head start on a new app layout.

The update also brings voice control to the design process. You can now talk to the canvas to ask for real-time critiques or request quick changes, like seeing a screen in three different colour palettes. Once the design is polished, the tool connects to platforms like AI Studio and Antigravity so developers can turn those visuals into working code.

So yeah, app designers, I think you’re now out of a job, as someone can use Stitch to come up with the design for their idea, in a matter of minutes and all for free. A quick test of the site produced some app design visuals that tied in current themes, text and more, better than I could have ever imagined. It’s never been easier to leverage AI to come up with your next idea.
