Perplexity Launches Comet Browser for iOS

Originally released for desktop and Android, Perplexity has now launched Comet for iOS, bringing its high-powered AI browser to the iPhone. The core philosophy behind Comet for iOS is “agentic search.”

While traditional browsers require users to manually toggle between tabs to gather information, Comet sits alongside the webpage, ready to process its contents in real-time.

Key features purpose-built for the iOS experience include:

  • Voice Mode: Built directly into the browser, this allows users to speak questions and receive researched answers without interrupting their workflow. It can even answer questions about the specific tab a user is currently reading.
  • Hybrid Search: Comet defaults to traditional search results (powered by Google) for navigational queries like finding a restaurant or checking a sports score. For deeper, more complex inquiries, the Comet Assistant steps in with comprehensive answers generated by Perplexity’s engine.
  • Deep Research and Summarization: Comet puts the full power of Perplexity’s research engine in your pocket. Users can open an article, ask for the key takeaways, and have the AI assistant instantly draft and share a summary via email.
  • Action-Oriented Assistance: Beyond simple search, the browser can perform tasks such as researching meeting invitees on LinkedIn, providing a briefing for a calendar event, or comparing prices across multiple shopping sites.

Comet for iOS is designed with cross-device continuity in mind. Research threads and browsing history stay synced between the iPhone, desktop, and Android versions, allowing users to pick up exactly where they left off.

While the desktop version of Comet initially launched with a high price point, the iOS app is available for free on the App Store for devices running iOS 18 or later. Optional Pro and Max subscription tiers are available starting at $20 per month.
