Rogers Internet Customer Slapped With $7 Price Hike Mid-Contract

Another day and another billing price hike is here it seems. You may want to check your billing statement if you’re a Rogers customer, because the company is rolling out a $7 monthly price increase for some internet customers that are in the middle of a contract.

The company is justifying the increase as a way to “continually invest” in its network to provide the “best-connected experience in Canada.”

One frustrated customer shared a copy of their billing statement showing the $7 increase (plus taxes) starting on their next bill. They noted that while they typically negotiate for better deals when promotional discounts expire, this latest charge arrived unexpectedly during their current contract.

The reaction on Reddit has been especially intense with the user comparing the experience of being a Rogers customer to a series of painful medical emergencies and a run-in with local wildlife.

“Why am I supporting their investments? Reason #1,952,154 why Rogers ranks below a root canal, a kidney stone, a needle in the eye, and being chased through a parking lot by an angry goose. At least the goose isn’t pretending it values me while actively making my life worse,” the user wrote.

The Rogers customer further clarified their frustration regarding the sudden change to their internet service.

“To clarify, this is for my internet service not mobile. I did push back several years ago to get a better deal, in fact I do that every time my promo discounts expire. However, this time it’s a notice of a $7 increase while I’m in the middle of a contract.”

You may want to check your Rogers internet bill to see if any price hike notices are there or not. Let us know in the comments.

They always tell us we can’t break contracts, but somehow they’re still free to change the contract price, even though it says they will not increase or change rates until the contract ends. I just don’t get it.

Nothing has changed since I was on CBC’s Marketplace in 2012 – that was about Rogers their wireless plans and their ever-shifting contracts – but the internet held true then as well. ‘Contract’ is a misnomer with these service providers and thanks to continued inaction from CRTC or Competition Bureau, the only fix to this now may be as it was suggested then – a Class Action lawsuit mounted by subscribers. But same issue as then – pricey.

Rogers is dishonest. They won me back with the promise to never raise my price. Then they raised my price, were sneaky and never really advised me except on some small fine print nobody ever reads. Then it took me 2 weeks to get through to any customer service. Once I got through the rep wasn’t even from here and wasn’t able to do any creditbacks. They burned me because my previous plan had a price freeze promise. Don’t trust Rogers ever!
