Google TV Rolls Out New Gemini AI Features in Canada: What’s New

Google is officially bringing new Gemini AI capabilities to Google TV in Canada and the U.S. starting today. The update aims to turn the television into a more interactive hub by reducing the need for users to reach for their phones to look up sports scores, movie details, or even recipes.
The rollout introduces richer visual help, which allows the Gemini assistant to adapt its responses based on the specific question asked. For example, if a user asks for a recipe, Google TV will now surface video tutorials alongside text, while sports queries will generate live scorecards and information on where to stream the game.

“Today, we’re making Gemini for Google TV even more capable, so your screen does the heavy lifting for you,” said Hanwook Kim and Ruturaj Patil, Product Managers for Google TV, in a company blog post on Tuesday.
In addition to visual assistance, Google is launching deep dives, which are narrated visual breakdowns on educational topics like health, economics, and technology. Users can interact with these guides and ask follow-up questions directly on the big screen.

While visual help begins rolling out today, broader support for these deep dives and a new sports briefs feature. This provides narrated highlights for leagues like the NHL, NBA, and MLB and will arrive later this spring.

The expansion also includes a wider international release, with Gemini for Google TV voice assistant features set to launch in Australia, New Zealand, and Great Britain in the coming months. These new Gemini features blow Apple’s Siri out of the water on Apple TV. An AI Siri overhaul can’t come soon enough.
