Meta May Launch Two New Sets of Smartglasses as FCC Filings Are Discovered

Meta and EssilorLuxottica may be preparing to launch two new pairs of their Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses. Two discovered FCC filings regarding new models were published by the agency earlier this month.
First seen by The Verge, the filing goes on to describe the new Ray-Ban Meta models as production units. This suggests that Meta and EssilorLuxottica may be on the tail end of the development cycle, and a launch of the device could be imminent. For instance, when the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses were first shown in late 2023, the devices had only been filed with the FCC over a month earlier.
Unfortunately, the FCC filings don’t provide a clear picture of what to expect from the new pairs of Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses. A lot of the filings are heavily redacted. So, we aren’t confident enough to say what new features will arrive with the new models.
That said, there are a few tidbits to glean from the filings. For instance, it appears that the marketing names for the new glasses are “RayBan Meta Scriber” and “RayBan Meta Blazer,” with each assigned the model numbers RW7001 and RW7002, respectively. RayBan Meta Blazer appears to be available in regular and large sizes.
Additionally, the FCC filings note that a charging case was used during testing, seemingly confirming that the new models will once again use a case to charge. Another difference we can interpret from the filings is the inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 UNII-4 band support. This may enable high-speed data transfers for the glasses. So, users may be able to upload captured content to their phones faster, livestream more reliably, and use AI features more quickly.
There’s no hint as to what a release date may look like for the RayBan Meta Scriber and RayBan Meta Blazer. However, given the rollout of the Oakley MEta HSTN and the Ray-Ban Display glasses, it seems as though Meta is committing itself to releasing new models, which bodes well for wearable enthusiasts.
