Shinobi Gets SEGA Villains Stage DLC
SEGA is bringing its most iconic villains into the world of its latest ninja epic. The SEGA Villains Stage DLC for Shinobi: Art of Vengeance officially launches today, April 3, 2026, across all major platforms.
The new DLC is more than just a boss rush; it is a journey across dimensions. It introduces five crossover stages, each inspired by classic SEGA franchises. Players will face three primary bosses who have been reimagined to fit the 2D hand-drawn aesthetic of the game:
- Goro Majima: The “Mad Dog of Shimano” from the Like a Dragon (Yakuza) series.
- Dr. Eggman: The brilliant but bumbling nemesis of Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Death Adder: The ruthless giant and primary antagonist of the Golden Axe series.
To help Musashi survive these encounters, the DLC adds three new “Ninpo” (ninja arts), three unique outfits, and six new music tracks that pay homage to the respective villain’s original games.
Alongside the paid DLC, SEGA is releasing a significant free update (Version 1.20) for all owners of the base game. The highlight of this update is the new Hardcore Mode. This setting is designed for veteran players, featuring altered enemy placements, more aggressive boss attack patterns, and reduced healing opportunities.
The update also brings several quality-of-life improvements. Players can now customize their combat experience by toggling effects like “hit stop,” “hit flash,” and “camera shake.” The in-game map has also been expanded to provide better visibility during exploration, and a new tutorial menu has been added so players can review ninja techniques at any time.
The SEGA Villains Stage is included for those who own the Shinobi: Art of Vengeance Digital Deluxe Edition or the Digital Deluxe Upgrade. If you bought these versions on PlayStation before April 8, 2026, you may need to manually download the pack from the PlayStation Store.
