Public Mobile Launches ‘Fast Switch’ to Push Prepaid Users Toward Koodo

Telus prepaid brand Public Mobile is making it easier for customers to ditch their prepaid plans and move over to Koodo. A new self-serve feature called Fast Switch has started appearing for select users, allowing them to migrate to a monthly Koodo postpaid plan in just a few minutes through their online account.

So why make the switch? Public Mobile touted on Tuesday that Koodo has features that prepaid users often miss out on. This includes the ability to finance a new phone for $0 upfront, access to international roaming through Easy Roam, and Call Control to help block spam calls.

How the Switch Works

If you are eligible, a Koodo banner will pop up when you log into your Public Mobile account. If you decide to pull the trigger, the process is pretty seamless. Your phone number moves with you, and Public Mobile will automatically cancel your old account so you don’t have to deal with customer service.

Public Mobile is also waiving the usual connection fee for those who switch online and providing a free Koodo eSIM. Since Koodo is a postpaid service, you will have to pass a credit check before the switch is finalized. Also, to get the lowest pricing from Koodo, you will have to setup autopay through debit banking.

What Happens to Your Money?

This new setup means you won’t lose your existing balance says Public Mobile. Any money sitting in your Public Mobile account will be automatically moved over and applied as a credit toward your first Koodo bill. Just keep in mind that any specific add-ons you bought for your Public Mobile plan will not carry over.

For now, this is a limited rollout. Public Mobile says they are starting with a select group of customers but hope to make this Fast Switch option available to everyone in the future.

Are you seeing the option for Fast Switch in your account? Are you going to jump ship to Koodo?

I just switched to public mobile for $25 80gb 5g ca/mx/us for 24 months. I’m sure some other provider will come up with a better deal in these 24 months.

Things are running smoothly just the way they are. I really don’t want to switch. You can bet that ultimately K will be more expensive

Yeah this is crazy.
35.00 with Public Mobile for 75GB, Can.Usa.Mex
All Koodo plans are a downgrade for sure.
Definitely some trickery going on to try and convince a happy PM customer to go to Koodo.

I get 80GB with koodoo for $25 ($35 with $10 off for prepay) with unlimited UK calling. Another reason is WiFi calling. I was on public mobile with 75GB for $35 with 1000 UK minutes.

I switched to Koodo last summer just before I went on a trip to Iceland for 3 weeks so I could use my data and use my own number. It costs 60 bucks for a month of roaming. I also like it because I can use my Wi-Fi calling in my basement and my phone works

Don’t do it, I switched to kodoo bill went from $35 to $67 for a similar plan. Just bought another public mobile SIM card to switch back. The benefit of public is you can switch your plans and buy add ons for travel with ease, can’t with kiddo any switch you lose benefits and cost increases. That’s my experience

I was with Koodo years ago and left them because they raised prices on my plan. I have tried several other sub brands each time getting a better deal, such as Zoomer wireless then Fido and now Public. Telus think we dumb, because your rates will go up in the long run if you port to Koodo. No thanks. Anyone know how to turn off the offer permanently?

Bank debit….. No way I am giving any phone company access to my bank account so they can leak it to scammers.

If you don’t need roaming outside North America, PM is perfectly fine and they often have attractive deals. In our case, we upgraded 3 times on 4 lines so it got progressively better. For us, Koodo would be a downgrade at a higher cost, so no thanks.
