X Launches New AI Photo Editor on iOS

Announcement by the company’s Head of Product Nikita Bier, X has introduced a major upgrade to its media tools by integrating a brand new photo editor directly into the post composer.

For years, users on the platform were limited to basic cropping and simple filters. The new update changes that by introducing a suite of tools that allow for more creative control before a post goes live.

The updated composer now includes dedicated drawing and text overlay features, which Bier described as “long-overdue.” These additions allow creators to quickly annotate images, add captions, or highlight specific details without needing to leave the app for third-party editing software.

One of the most practical additions is a new blur tool designed for privacy and redaction. This feature allows users to easily obscure faces, license plates, or sensitive documents before sharing them with the public. In an era where digital privacy is increasingly scrutinized, having a built-in redaction tool is a welcome improvement for the average user.

The standout feature of this release is “Edit with Words,” an integration powered by xAI’s Grok. Instead of fumbling with complex sliders or manual brushes, users can now describe the changes they want to see. For example, a user could ask the editor to “make the background look like a sunset” or “place this object in a museum setting,” and the AI will process the request in real-time.

The new photo editor is rolling out exclusively to iOS users, with Bier confirming that an Android version is currently in development and expected to follow shortly.
