X Launches Standalone XChat Messaging App for iPhone

X has officially released XChat, a new standalone messaging app built specifically for private, focused conversations. The app allows users to sign in with their existing X account, meaning friends, family, and colleagues are already available without the need for invites or phone number swaps.

Privacy is the foundation of the experience says X. Every message is fully end-to-end encrypted with a unique key pair protected by a PIN that never leaves the user’s device. This security ensures that no one, not even X, can read your private conversations.

Last year, X launched XChat as part of its direct messaging but now there’s a standalone app.

Key Features and Functionality

The app is designed to be a dedicated space for secure communication, free from ads and tracking. Users have total control over their digital footprint with the ability to edit or delete messages for everyone in a thread.

To further protect privacy, XChat includes a feature to block screenshots and offers a disappearing messages option that the user controls.

Massive Group Chats and File Sharing

Despite the focus on privacy, the app is built for heavy use, supporting massive group chats and the sharing of large photos, videos, and files. It provides a streamlined way to chat securely with the people who matter most in a private environment.

XChat is available now for iPhone (Android is likely in the works), allowing users to instantly leverage the network they have spent years building on the platform.
