Public Mobile Slashed Data on Its $40 and $45 Plans — Here’s What Changed

Telus-owned Public Mobile has revamped its 5G plan pricing on Wednesday, now that some promos have ended, according to price checks by iPhone in Canada.

Here are Public Mobile’s plans as of April 29, 2026:

There were no changes to 4G plan pricing, but 5G plans saw a reduction in data of 25GB and 75GB for the $40 and $45 plans. A new $50/175GB Canada-US-Mexico plan is now available. Previously, you were able to pay $45 for 175GB, so this is essentially a price hike.

Once again, we’re seeing Public Mobile mimic Freedom Mobile’s pricing, and that’s the case right now for the $40, $45 and $50 5G plans. However, Freedom Mobile’s plans include global roaming, whereas Public Mobile’s 5G plans are only good in North America and also lack features like Wi-Fi calling. If you head overseas with Public Mobile, you won’t be able to receive any calls or text messages, as international roaming is not available. You’ll need to buy eSIM data to stay connected or get a local plan.

This isn’t exactly the best time to get a cellphone plan as we’ve seen better promos in the past, so hold on tight if you’re still waiting.

Still, I’m amazed that $50 gets you 175 GB, whereas not even 6 years ago, it would get you 8-10 GB on the budget carriers.
