Public Mobile Is Pushing Its $40/150GB Koodo Switch Offer Again

Public Mobile is once again pushing customers to move from prepaid over to Koodo postpaid, offering 150 GB of data for $40 per month, according to an email received by iPhone in Canada on Wednesday. It’s the same offer the Telus-owned brand was sending out back in July.

The email says Public Mobile customers are “eligible for exclusive Koodo offers,” and this one is only available online. The $40 price includes Koodo’s $10 per month auto-pay discount, so you’ll need to set up pre-authorized bank payments to get it. Without that, you’re paying $50 per month. The discount also only starts on the billing cycle after your bank payments are set up.

Telus has been steadily nudging Public Mobile users toward its postpaid brands this year, and it expanded the same switching tool to Telus plans in August.

Koodo’s plan comes with one free Pick Your Perk add-on, such as Rollover Data or Premium Voicemail. The carrier is also pointing to Easy Roam, which lets you use your plan’s minutes, data and texts in select countries for a daily fee, plus discounts on new devices, streaming and home internet.

Switching runs through Public Mobile’s Fast Switch tool in your online account. Your phone number and payment method stay the same, and Public Mobile says any prepaid balance will go toward your next Koodo bill, as long as you use the email tied to your Public Mobile account. Customers also end up on a free Koodo eSIM, which means you’ll need an eSIM-compatible phone.

As for the fine print, the offer is subject to approved credit, since you’re moving to a monthly postpaid account. It’s available in all provinces, can’t be combined with other promotions and can change without notice. Taxes, long distance and roaming charges are extra, and the email doesn’t list an end date.

For comparison, Public Mobile’s own $40 plan currently gets you 70 GB with talk, text and data across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, plus 1,000 international minutes. Its $50 plan bumps that to 175 GB. Koodo’s offer gives you more data for $40, but there’s no U.S. or Mexico usage included, and you’re trading prepaid for a credit check and a monthly bill. That’s a lot of fine print for 80 extra gigs.

Did you get this Koodo offer from Public Mobile? Are you tempted to switch?

Got this email offer last night. No way I am moving off my deal I got via a flash sale. But not sure why there is big push to move people from PM to Koodo. Looks like Koodo offers less in terms of plans that cover Mexico and the US.
