Mac Mini Now Starts at $1,099 After Apple Pulls 256GB Model

Apple’s M4 Mac mini now costs $1,099 in Canada as the company has discontinued the 256GB model.
According to Apple’s official website, the base configuration of the M4 Mac Mini now supports only 16GB of RAM and 512GB of memory, as first reported by MacRumors. Thus, the starting price of the device has effectively risen from $799 to $1,099 as Apple shifts its production strategy for the Mac mini. Apple’s M4 Pro Mac Mini already comes with a default 512GB storage SKU, so the more powerful model remains priced at $1,999.
Apple’s sudden price increase comes soon after the company announced that it is facing manufacturing hurdles for the Mac mini and Mac Studio. The company faces underestimated demand for the two devices, leading to fulfillment delays when purchasing both products online.
During its earnings call for the second fiscal quarter of 2026, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, “We think, looking forward, that the Mac mini and Mac Studio may take several months to reach supply-demand balance.” Previously, when attempting to purchase the 256GB Mac mini, Apple’s website listed the device as “Currently unavailable.” Anecdotally, the turnaround time for the 512GB model is about 6 weeks.
Apple has made effective plans to begin building the Mac mini in the US. Though the timeline of its impact on manufacturing and deliveries is still unknown. Apple is retrofitting an old warehouse into a 20,000 square feet of dedicated manufacturing space for the Mac mini.
