Govee Reveals New TV Backlight 3 With Improved Colour Replication

Govee has revealed the new TV Backlight 3, the flagship model within the Backlight 3 series. This is the first TV backlighting system to achieve a claimed 4-million-pixel resolving power thanks to an industry-first hybrid glass-plastic dual-camera lens.
The company’s new TV Backlight 3 offers improved colour accuracy over its predecessor. Now, those who are watching movies or playing games can garner a deeper sense of immersion from the backlighting system. The TV Backlight 3 features 4-in-1 RGBWIC LEDs with a dedicated white channel. It supports 60 LEDs per meter, increasing brightness by around 20 percent.
Govee is leveraging its proprietary hybrid glass-plastic (1G+3P) dual-camera lens. It’s said that this technology combines the high light transmittance of glass, resulting in a 100 percent increase in resolving power over the prior generation. Simply put, users will get a 30 percent increase in image clarity compared to the 2MP lens.
TV Backlight 3 includes an expanded red-spectrum IR filter, which assists in more accurate detection of reds and warmer hues displayed on the TV. In my own practical use of Govee’s Backlight systems in the past, the company has had troubles replicating accurate warm hues. A high-signal-to-noise 1080p image sensor, capable of up to 30 fps, can help capture shadows and improve contrast.
What’s especially exciting about Govee’s TV Backlight 3 is how it handles the TV’s zones. Instead of projecting a dominant colour represented on the display, TV Backlight 3 divides the screen into 24 independent zones. This results in a more accurate reproduction of the colours rendered. Govee AI content filters can also read what’s being played on the TV to adjust the lighting and atmosphere.
Govee’s TV Backlight 3 is compatible with the Govee Home App and DreamView synchronization across up to 10 Govee devices and lighting accessories. It is also fully compatible with Apple HomeKit, Matter, and Samsung SmartThings.
In Canada, the 55-65-inch model is available for $159.99. A larger option, supporting displays between 75 and 85 inches is available for $189.99.
